Feudal Era Couture

On this week's edition of CosPix, we're looking at the creme of the crop of Inuyasha cosplayers. As I'm typing this, I'm actually scouring the internet in search of these elusive creatures. Yeah, so that was kinda mean, but anyways.

Why Inuyasha cosplayers, you ask? Because I'm actually in the process of constructing a group of my own for AFO this year, and frankly I wanted to see what else was out there.

So here we go:

After pouring through 938 submissions on cosplay lab, I've come up with this:

First one I found, Shippou:

Just when I thought it couldn't be done, I'm pleasantly surprised. I actually thought that the only person that could pull off a successful Shippou cosplay would be a small child. But here, the colors are nice and everything else is very well done. I would also like to comment that this person is from Florida (represent!) and this was done fairly recently.

Next up, I have a Sango...actually I have a group of nicely done IY cosplay:

But first, let's focus on the Sango. This is Shiva (previously of the Clue group as Mrs. Peacock) making a return appearance on this blog. Same con, Anime Boston. Another fairly recent cosplay. Actually, really recent. Additionally, the group shot on the top middle is full of really nice costumes as well.

or visit Shiva's personal cosplay website, the address of which is in the picture :)

Next up, Sesshoumaru:

While there isn't a cosplayer in this costume, I think we all need to take a moment to bask in the awesomeness of this detailing...
...*moment*...

Ok, moving on. But first, a side note:
Little kids always work as Shippou, case in point:
adorable, isn't it?

Now for my last one of today, hopefully we can find a Kagome or an Inuyasha...
...and it's a Kagome! *cheers*

Actually, not too much to say here, seeing as it's quite lovely just kinda sitting there. It seems to me as if this costume is embracing the adage, some great cosplays work with a pre-made base (the shirt). There's no info on the c-lab page, so this is just speculation, but anyways...it's nice.

That's all for this edition of CosPix, looks like the bar is set pretty high for my group this year. We'll see how that goes...

When Cosplay and Board Games meet...

You know when you go to conventions, and there's always random non-anime/manga/game/subculture costumes? The trekkies, the Johnny Depp Willy Wonka's, the disney characters? I really appreciate all of these extracurricular cosplay endeavours, but here's one I bet you never thought of: Board Games.

More specifically Clue.
Now let me give a little back ground ony Clue. There's a movie, it's pretty good, kinda has a Rocky Horror-esque feeling (minus the singing) meets Beetlejuice. And more importantly it's a well-known board game with a pretty distinguished cast of characters. And here it is in it's cosplay incarnation:

Cosplayer credits (that I could find) are:
Shiva as Mrs. Peacock
Gale as Miss Scarlet

This picture is from ACParadise

It was taken at Anime Boston, whose theme was conveniently "Detective Mystery".

As one of my all time favorite games to play, this picture blew me away. Not only is it a really neat shot, all the costumes are spot-on and it's a really creative idea. I'm plesantly surprised that there are indeed more artistic uses for what appears to be hotel furniture than merely waiting for an event to start. Kudos to you guys ^_^.

The Inauguration of CosPix!

While my college career as a fashion design major quickly approaches and I fall back into summer cosplay mode, I felt the need to get in touch with my textile roots. I also attempt to manage a small cosplay group called NovemberCosplay, and I figured that this was a good way to appreciate the art and hone my skills at the same time.

To explain a little more about CosPix, I've decided to stage a mock interview...with myself (I promise it's not a creepy as it sounds...) :

Q) What is CosPix?
A) CosPix is a blog dedicated to displaying some of the best and brightest of the cosplay and costume world. Whether that be an awesome picture, an awesome skit, or even a website where you can get quality stuff for costuming in general.

Q) What goes on here?
A) At a frequency yet to be determined, I will pick out a cosplay/costume picture or skit or website and display it. I will typically gush about its awesomeness, say a few clever words, and basically promote it.

Q) You said you are gonna talk about cosplay/costume pictures. Isn't that what 4chan does?
A) While this is true, most of the stuff I've ever come across on 4chan is either really really rude and hurtful, or really really sexist (which is also hurtful). CosPix is about the celebration of cosplay, not the criticism of it.

Q) Where did you ever get this idea?
A) Actually, I got the idea from two places. A merging of ideas if you will. First, I was checking my email the other day, and I get those cosplayer updates from ACP. So I was checking them out and found a really fantastic pic (which will be my first official post) and thought it would be neat to write about all the thoughts I was thinking about this fantastic picture. Then later, I was clicking about one of my fav blogs, Cake Wrecks, and I was thinking 'Wouldn't it be awesome to do something like this, but for cosplay...and about the good instead of the bad?". And so CosPix was born.

Q) What about picture credits and stuff like that?
A) I will do my best to give the appropriate credit where credit is due. I will list where I got the picture/video/website, the name of the cosplayer/group/etc., possibly another website where they can be found, and some other info as it is avaliable.

I think that's it for this post, so onto the CosPix!
